Sweeney Earns Honorable Mention All-America Honors In GS At USCSA Nationals

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—Babson College first-year Kristen Sweeney (Westport, Conn.) had a stellar United States College Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championship debut on Tuesday, earning honorable mention All-America honors with an 11th-place finish in the giant slalom at Whiteface Mountain.

The program's first female to qualify for nationals since 1998, Sweeney was in 12th position after posting a time of 1:06.47 in her morning run. She came back this afternoon and trimmed nearly three seconds off her first run to move up one spot with a two-run time of 2:10.02. Sweeney is just the fourth female to garner All-America accolades in program history.

Frida Svedberg of Rocky Mountain College won the GS with a time of 2:04.09, while teammate Eloise Julliand was second and Natalie Pearl of Brown, the MacConnell Division Skier of the Year, was third. Sweeney was one of just three competitors from the northeast to finish in the top-11 as skiers from Rocky Mountain and Sierra Nevada College grabbed eight of the event's top nine spots.

Sweeney will be back at Whiteface on Thursday to compete in the slalom starting at 9:45 a.m.
