Dowd, Men Alpine Skiing End Regular Season With Victory At Castleton State Carnival

PERU, Vt.—Sophomore Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) used a pair of great runs in the slalom to pick up his second victory of the year on Sunday, clinching the top spot in the MacConnell Division individual standings for the second straight winter, and helping the Babson College men's alpine ski team win its third event of the season. First-year Kristen Sweeney (Westport, Conn.) posted a third place finish to help the women's team come in eighth in the team's regular season finale at Bromley Mountain on Sunday.

Dowd, who has posted 18 consecutive top-10 finishes in 20 MacConnell Division races over the last two seasons, finished with a time of 1:19.65 to win by nearly a second over Austin Florian of Clarkson University. Sophomore Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) came in third with a time of 1:21.60, and junior Kevin Dachos (Northampton, Mass.) was eighth in a time of 1:22.45. First-year Evan Cooke (Brookline, N.H.) and senior Clark Chamberlin (Auburn, Maine) finished 24th and 26th, respectively.

Sweeney had a pair of great runs to post a total time of 1:25.31 to earn her seventh top-eight finish in eight races and vault into third place overall in the final MacConnell Division standings. Sophomore Anne-Frederic Duval (Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec) came in 38th in a time of 1:40.49, while senior Jaclyn LaCavalla (New City, N.Y.) was just 0.44 seconds behind her in 39th place. Sophomore Caroline Boffa (Easton, Conn.) rounded out the squad with a 55th-place result.

The Babson men came in second in the team standings for the second year in a row, finishing behind first-place Clarkson, which won its third consecutive MacConnell Division regular season title.

The Babson women wrapped up the MacConnell Division slate finishing in seventh place while Brown University, which has won 29 straight races over the last three seasons, finished first.

The Beavers return to action at the NCAA East Regional Championships on February 21 at the Middlebury Snow Bowl, followed by the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) Regionals at Sugarloaf, Maine, on February 22-23.
