PERU, Vt.—The Babson College men's and women's alpine ski teams opened the Castleton State Carnival with the first of two slalom races on Saturday at Bromley Mountain. The men's team came in fifth while the women's team posted a seventh-place result.
On the men's side, sophomore Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) put together a pair of solid times and finished eighth overall in a total time of 1:22.84. After sitting in 50th position following his first run, classmate Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished his second run in 40.05, the fastest time of the day, to come in 28th overall. First-years Sam Foster (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Evan Cooke (Brookline, N.H.) came in 28th and 29th, respectively.
Dowd enters Sunday's final regular-season race with an eight point lead over Charles Lowth of Clarkson in his bid to repeat as the MacConnell Division's top skier. Quisenberry is in seventh place while sophomore Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and junior Kevin Dachos (Northampton, Mass.) sit in 14th and 16th place overall.
First-year Kristen Sweeney (Westport, Conn.) was the Beavers' top finisher on the women's race, posting a seventh-place finish with a two-run time of 1:32.15. She was followed by classmate Molly Danzig (Allendale, N.J.) who came in 35th, and senior Jaclyn LaCavalla (New City, N.Y.) who finished 45th.
Sweeney is currently in sixth place overall entering Sunday's finale.
