BENNINGTON, N.H.—Sophomore Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) highlighted the opening day of the Saint Anselm Carnival on Saturday at Crotched Mountain, posting two of the day's best times to claim his first victory of the season in the slalom. The Babson men, who opened the day just one point behind first-place Clarkson, came in fifth, while the women's team posted a ninth-place finish.

Dowd, who now has six top-five finishes in seven races this season, was in second place following his first run, but had the best time of any skier on his second run, posting a total time of 1:42.89 to win by nearly a second. Fellow sophomore Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) finished ninth overall, his sixth top-10 finish of the season, while classmate Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was 31st.

On the women's side, first-year Molly Danzig (Allendale, N.J.) was the Beavers' top finisher, coming in 22nd. Sophomore Anne-Frederic Duval (Saint-Bruon-de-Montarville, Quebec) posted a 34th-place result, her best of the season, while senior Jaclyn LaCavalla (New City, N.Y.) finished 40th.

First-year Kristen Sweeney (Westport, Conn.) had finished in the top four in each of her first four races, and was in second place after her first run Saturday, but did not finish her second run.

The Beavers wrap up the Saint Anselm Carnival on Sunday when they compete in the giant slalom.
