Men's & Women's Alpine Skiing at the UConn Carnival
Thursday-Friday, January 9-10
Okemo Mountain Resort—Ludlow, Vt.
THE SETUP:
The Babson College men's and women's alpine ski teams open up their MacConnell Division slate at the two-day UConn Carnival on Thursday at Okemo Mountain in Ludlow, Vt. The men came in second in the league last winter, while the women finished eighth. The eight men's teams and nine women's teams will compete in the slalom on Thursday and giant slalom on Friday.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS:
On the women's side, Babson returns three letterwinners but must replace its top skier from last season in Franny Robertson who graduated in May. Senior Jaclyn LaCavalla is the Green and White's top returner, along with sophomore Caroline Boffa and senior Sophie Komornicki, who missed all of last season due to injury…On the men's side, the Beavers return five of their top six skiers including a trio of sophomores—Carter Dowd, Sam Barber, and Graham Quisenberry—who earned honorable mention All-America accolades last season. Babson finished just one point behind first-place Clarkson last season, and advanced to the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference (ECSC) Regionals and United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Nationals, finishing third.
SCOUTING THE FIELD:
One the women's side, Brown University won all 10 races last season, cruising to the division title. Castleton State and St. Anselm both posted five second-place team finishes and will look to challenge the Bears this winter…On the men's side, the Golden Knights of Clarkson won three races last season, barely edging out Babson, which won four races, for the top spot in the standings. Castleton State won three races last winter and finished third overall, followed by UMass and St. Anselm in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
