LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—The Babson College alpine ski teams finished off a strong weekend in the giant slalom at Whiteface Mountain as the men got three top-10 performances to earn their second win of the season, while the women got another great race from first-year Kristen Sweeney (Westport, Conn.) to come in seventh on the final day of the Clarkson Carnvial.
Sophomore Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished with a two-run total of 1:42.29 to come in second overall, while classmate Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) bounced back from a tough race on Saturday to finish fourth with a time of 1:42.93. Fellow sophomore Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) put together a pair of solid runs to post a ninth-place finish with a time of 1:43.87.
Junior Kevin Dachos (Northampton, Mass.) was 14th overall with a total time of 1:44.94, and senior Clark Chamberlin (Auburn, Maine) moved up from 38th after his first run to finish in 29th position with a time of 1:48.61. The Beavers total time of 8:42.64 to finish just ahead of second-place Clarkson, which posted an overall time of 8:43.18. Castleton State, which narrowly beat the Green and White on Saturday, came in third.
In the women's race, Sweeney once again was superb, moving up from sixth position after her first run to come in fourth overall with a time 1:48.07. First-year Molly Danzig (Allendale, N.J.), who did not finish Saturday's race, bounced back with a 37th-place finish, while senior Jaclyn LaCavalla (New City, N.Y.) came in 40th and sophomore Anne-Frederic Duval (Saint-Bruno-d3-Montarville, Quebec) was 45th, respectively.
Brown won its 26th consecutive MacConnell Division race while Castleton State finished second.
The Beavers will take part in the Saint Anselm Carnival next weekend at Crotched Mountain in Bennington, N.H. The teams will compete in the slalom on Saturday and the giant slalom on Sunday. The MacConnell Division will also be holding an alumni race on Saturday.
