BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Nik Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass.) scored the go-ahead goal at 11:21 of the second period and sophomore goalie Jamie Murray (Scituate, Mass.) made 16 of his 36 saves over the final 20 minutes, lifting sixth-ranked Babson College to a hard-fought, 3-2 victory over UMass-Boston (No. 9 D3hockey.com/No. 12 USCHO.com) in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East men's ice hockey action at the Babson Skating Center on Saturday afternoon.

With its fifth straight win, Babson is now 16-3-0 overall and 10-2-0 in conference play, while UMass-Boston, which has dropped three consecutive games, falls to 13-4-2 overall and 6-4-2 in the ECAC East.

Junior Mike Driscoll (Milton, Mass.) and first-year Michael Phillips (Richmond Heights, Ohio) each scored for the Beavers, who got three assists from sophomore Mike Vollmin (Wilmington, N.C.). Tasiopoulos, senior Troy Starrett (Bellingham, Mass.) and first-year Jon Mleczko (Dorchester, Mass.) all chipped in with an assist in the win.

Junior Nathan Milam (Westland, Mich.) and sophomore Peter MacIntyre (Norfolk, Mass.), who entered the game ranked second nationally in scoring, both had a goal for the Beacons. Junior Stephen Buco (North Providence, R.I.) added a pair of assists while MacIntyre and senior Travis Daniel (North Brunswick, N.J.) each had one.

Babson jumped on top 1-0 just 5:14 into the game as Phillips scored his fourth power play goal of the season, converting a feed from Tasiopoulos, following a UMass-Boston cross check. The Beavers then doubled their advantage just 4:15 later when Driscoll scored his second goal of the weekend series and team-leading ninth of the season at the 9:19 mark.

MacIntyre cut the Green and White's lead in half just moments later, notching his 16th goal of the season, just 16 seconds after a Babson penalty to make it 2-1 at 11:44 of the first. The Beavers were unable to convert a power play opportunity late in the opening period, and the Beacons took advantage, knotting the game at 2-2 just 5:28 into the second.

Babson was whistled for its second penalty of the game at the 4:14 mark and Milam scored his 10th goal of the season off assists from MacIntyre and Buco 1:14 later. Tasiopoulos broke the tie just under six minutes later though, scoring his ninth goal of the season on a shot from the slot at the 11:21 mark.

UMass-Boston outshot the Beavers 16-10 in the third period and had a trio of power play opportunities, two of which came in the game's final three minutes. Murray stopped a point-blank shot by sophomore Frankie DeAugustine (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with just under three minutes left and then denied a pair of deflections by Milam and MacIntyre with a minute and a half remaining.

The Beacons pulled sophomore goaltender Billy Faust (Alta Loma, Calif.) for the final 1:14, but Babson was able to kill off 52 seconds of their two-man advantage to secure the victory.

Faust finished with 33 saves for UMass-Boston, which held a 38-36 advantage in shots on goal and won one more face off than the Beavers.

Both teams return to action on Friday night at 7 p.m. as Babson hosts Castleton State, while the Beacons will take on Skidmore.
