ANDOVER, N.H.—First-year Kristen Sweeney (Westport, Conn.) posted the two fastest times of the day on her way to winning the women's slalom, while sophomore Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) posted a second-place finish in the men's slalom at the Brown Carnival at Blackwater Ski Area on Saturday. The Babson women had their best finish of the season, coming in sixth, while the men, despite a pair of top-6 individual finishes came in eighth.
Sweeney, who came in third in the giant slalom on Friday, had two great runs to hold off Sylvie Bertrand of Brown University. She posted a 49.57 on her first run and backed it up with a 49.84 on her second run for a total time of 1:39.41.
First-year Molly Danzig (Allendale, N.J.) came in 18th with a two-run time of 1:49.27 to post the best finish of her career, while senior Jaclyn LaCavalla (New City, N.Y.) was 45th with a time of 2:09.51.
On the men's side, Dowd had the second best time on each of his two runs, posting a total time of 1:30.27 to finish just behind Austin Florian of Clarkson. He now has a pair of second-place finishes on the year and has come in seventh or better in four consecutive races.
Junior Kevin Dachos (Northampton, Mass.) equaled the best result of his career, coming in sixth with a time of 1:32.10. Senior Clark Chamberlin (Auburn, Maine) was in 28th position following his first run, but struggled on his second run to finish 44th overall. Sophomore Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) did not finish his first run and classmate Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.), who was in 17th position following the first run, did not finish his second trip down the mountain.
First-year Evan Cooke (Brookline, N.H.) helped the Beavers second team come in ninth with a career-best 20th-place finish, while junior Jack Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) came in 31st.
After four races, the Babson men are tied for second place with Castleton State, sitting eight points behind first-place Clarkson. The Babson women currently sit in seventh place.
The Beavers return to action next Saturday when they compete in the first of two giant slalom races as part of the Clarkson Carnival at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, N.Y
