Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla.—Junior Michael Bortolotti (Milton, Mass.) tossed a complete-game four-hitter, allowing just one run while striking out four to earn his second win of the season as Babson College completed its spring break trip with a 4-1 win over Allegheny College in non-conference baseball action on Saturday at Lake Myrtle Park.
With their third win in the last four games the Beavers move to 6-3 on the year while Allegheny had its three game win streak snapped and is now 6-4 on the season.
Junior Sean Lanahan (Avon, Conn.) and sophomore Sean MacPhee (Framingham, Mass.,) each had a pair of hits for Babson while seniors John Botelho (Tempe, Ariz.) and Trevor Boyce (Canton, Mass.), along with MacPhee, each drove in a run. Senior Chris Kucher (Westwood, Mass.) also continued his torrid pace with a double and a pair of walks, and is now 12-for-16 with four walks over the last four games.
The Beavers got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning as sophomore Joe Zanca (Braintree, Mass.) reached after being hit by pitch, advanced to third on a Lanahan single down the right field line, and scored on a Botelho groundout two batters later to take a 1-0 lead. Babson extended the lead as Kucher scored following his two-out double in the bottom of the third inning and Botelho scored on a bunt single by Boyce with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 3-0.
That would be all the offense Bortolotti would need, as he allowed just four singles and a pair of walks in his second start of the season. The right hander retired 14 of the first 15 batters he faced, and after surrendering the lone Allegheny run in the sixth inning he closed the game by retiring the final eight hitters he faced.
First-year Zack Sutton (Tampa, Fla.) paced the Gators with two hits and classmate Ben Kirchler (Flossmoor, Ill.) added a single and scored their lone run on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Zach Gray (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
Babson returns home from Florida and is scheduled to play four straight home games, starting with Johnson & Wales University on Monday afternoon at 3:30pm, while Allegheny returns home to play Thiel College on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00pm
