NEWRY, Maine -- Five members of the Babson College alpine ski team competed in the giant slalom portion of the 2013 NCAA Eastern Regional Championships at Sunday River on Friday. The Beavers place 15th overall in the event.
First-year Carter Dowd was the lone Beaver to complete both of his runs on Friday, finishing his first trip down the mountain in 1:22.82 and the second in 1:23.20. His total time of 2:46.02 placed him 55th overall out of 85 total competitors.
Also qualifying for the event for Babson were freshmen Graham Quisenberry and Sam Barber, who failed to complete their first run, and senior captain Zach Breakstone and sophomore Kevin Dachos, who finished their first runs with respective times of 1:25.73 and 1:24.61 before falling on their second runs. The foursome was hardly the only group that struggled with the course conditions on Friday, as 14 other competitors failed to complete both runs.
With the NCAA Regionals behind them, the Beavers will now make the short trip to Mount Abram for the ECSC Regional Championships on Saturday and Sunday. With a top-five overall finish, Babson can earn the program's sixth straight trip to the USCSA National Championships.
