Men's Skiing Places Third In West Mountain Slalom, Finishes Second In Final League Standings

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. -- The Babson College men's alpine ski team fell just short of catching first-place Clarkson in the race for the MacConnell Division Championship on Sunday, as the Beavers finished the regular season by taking third in the slalom at West Mountain. However, Babson's second-place finish in the final league standings was still the program's best since 1993, and it was more than enough to secure the program's sixth straight bid to the ECSC Regional Championships at Mount Abram next weekend.

Tough conditions were a major factor in Sunday's event, as a total of 20 skiers failed to finish one of their two runs and another seven were disqualified. However, in spite of these difficulties, Babson first-year standout Carter Dowd capped off his magical rookie campaign by placing seventh overall in the men's race. As a result, he clinched the MacConnell Division's individual title, making him Babson's first league champion in more than a decade.

Also in the men's slalom, first-year Graham Quisenberry finished 11th overall for the second straight day, while sophomore Kevin Dachos came in 17th. In doing so, both joined senior captain Zach Breakstone and first-year Sam Barber in earning top-20 status in the final individual league standings. Breakstone finished 14th overall in the conference, followed by Quisenberry in 16th, Barber in 18th, and Dachos in 20th.

With only two racers finishing on Sunday, the Babson women were forced to settle for 10th place in the final slalom competition of the season. However, the Beavers still managed to finish eighth in the final MacConnell Division team standings. Junior Jaclyn LaCavalla led the Green and White with her best finish of the season, placing 28th overall, while first-year Caroline Boffa also posted a season-best by placing 45th.

Although she was disqualified in her first run on Sunday, senior captain Franny Robertson still finished eighth in the final individual league standings - the best conference ranking of her career.
