QUEENSBURY, N.Y. -- The Babson College alpine ski teams kicked off their final weekend of the regular season with a giant slalom competition at West Mountain on Saturday. The men placed third overall, while the women placed seventh.
The men's race saw Babson settle for third despite placing four skiers in the top 11. First-year Carter Dowd placed sixth in the individual standings, while sophomore Kevin Dachos also cracked the top 10 in ninth place. Senior captain Zach Breakstone followed in 10th place and first-year Graham Quisenberry came in 11th for the Beavers.
Senior Franny Robertson helped fuel the ladies' seventh-place performance with another stellar effort, as she took sixth overall - her fourth top-10 finish of the season. Junior Jaclyn LaCavalla added a season-best 38th-place finish, while first-year Caroline Boffa rounded out the women's list of finishers in 48th.
The Babson men entered the weekend in first place in the MacConnell Division, two points ahead of second-place Clarkson. However, the Golden Knights' team victory coupled with the Beavers' third-place finish moved Clarkson into first in the league standings - one point ahead of Babson - with one race remaining. The Green and White will need a clutch performance in Sunday's slalom competition in order to secure the program's first league title since 1993.
