First-year Bart Moran (Calgary, Alberta) had the only score of the game for the Spartans while senior Colin Murray (Oshawa, Ontario) chipped in with an assist in the loss.
Babson got on the board first thanks to Driscoll's second tally of the year just 3:26 into the first period. Castleton State took an early holding penalty and the Beavers made them pay, notching a power play goal for the eighth straight regular-season game. Driscoll buried the rebound after Spartans' senior goalie Erick Cinotti (Mahwah, N.J.) stopped O'Neill's shot for the 1-0 lead.
Despite getting outshot 14-5 in the second period, Murray stood tall, and the Green and White was able to extend its lead at the 6:42 mark of the third period on Furey's first goal of the season. Castleton State cut the Beavers' lead in half on Moran's team-leading fourth goal of the year at 18:52 of the third period, but Murray made one stop, and Driscoll and senior Ryan Heavey (Andover, Mass.) each blocked a shot in the final 35 seconds to secure the win.
Murray made 23 of his 29 saves over the second and third periods to earn his fifth win of the year. Cinotti stopped 18 shots for the Spartans.
Castleton State finished with a 30-20 advantage in shots on goal. The Beavers went 1-for-3 on the power play and killed off both of the Spartans extra-man opportunities.
