Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Mike Driscoll (Milton, Mass.) had a goal and an assist, and nationally-ranked Babson College scored three times on the power play en route to a 4-3 victory over visiting Assumption College in non-conference men's ice hockey action on Saturday afternoon at the Babson Skating Center.
With the win, Babson (No. 10 D3hockey.com/No. 11 USCHO.com) is now 4-0-0 on the season while the loss drops Assumption to 1-3-1 overall.
Senior Ben Kravitz (Huntington, N.Y.), sophomore Mike Vollmin (Wilmington, N.C.), and first-year Michael Phillips (Richmond Heights, Ohio) each scored for the Beavers. Seniors Matt Furey (Quincy, Mass.) and Ryan Heavey (Andover, Mass.), junior Joe DiPietro (Pembroke, Mass.) and sophomore Max Franklin (Wrentham, Mass.) each chipped in with an assist as the Green and White won its seventh consecutive home game.
Sophomore Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass.) and first-year Ryan Gomez (Wayne, N.J.) each scored and had an assist for the Greyhounds, while sophomore Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass.) chipped in with a goal.
Vollmin got the hosts on the board first, notching his first goal of the season on the power play just 7:58 into the first period. Kravitz then notched a power play goal, his first of the season, 5:01 into the second period, and Driscoll followed with an unassisted goal just 2:37 later to give Babson a 3-0 advantage.
Assumption rallied though, as Erban cut the deficit to two with his tally at the 10:38 mark, and Gomez followed with his first goal of the season at 14:05 of the second period to make it 3-2. Phillips extended the Beavers' lead back to two with his power play goal at 16:23 of the second.
The Greyhounds, who were able to muster seven of their 14 shots on goal in the final period, cut the Babson lead to 4-3 when Bete scored with 5:34 remaining in the third, but Beavers' senior goalie Danny Rivellini (Great Falls, Va.) helped secure the win with three late saves.
Making his first start of the season, Rivellini stopped 11 shots, including five third-period saves. Senior Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass.) made a season-high 40 saves for Assumption, which was outshot 44-14 on the afternoon.
Babson returns to action next Friday in its first ECAC East road game of the season at Skidmore at 7 p.m., while Assumption is at Southern New Hampshire next Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
