GUILFORD, N.H. -- The Babson College men's ski team won its second consecutive race on Friday, as the Beavers placed first in the giant slalom competition at the Brown Carnival at Gunstock. The women's team was also in action at the event, but they did not register an official team score.
First-year Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) posted the men's top finish of the day, as he turned in the fastest opening run of the competition before settling for third overall in the final standings. Senior captain Zach Breakstone (Sparta, N.J.) also cracked the top 10 for the Beavers, placing seventh overall. Rookie Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) rounded out the team's scoring three in 11th place, while classmate Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) recorded a brilliant second run that helped him surge from 24th all the way to 14th in the final standings.
For the women, senior captain Franny Robertson (York, Maine) earned her third top-five finish in as many races this winter when she placed fifth overall in a field of 63 competitors. Junior Jaclyn LaCavalla (New City, N.Y.) added a season-best 38th-place finish for the Beavers.
Both teams will now head to Blackwater for the slalom portion of this weekend's carnival on Saturday.
