Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – Reigning two-time NEWMAC player of the year Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) had three goals and an assist as visiting Babson rolled to a 5-0 win over host Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Beavers improve to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in league play, pushing their unbeaten streak against Clark (4-4, 0-2 NEWMAC) to seven straight dating back to 2006.
Anderson wasted little time getting Babson on the board as he headed home his first goal of the day off a feed from Tyler Carlos (Prospect, Conn.) at 28:40.
Less than five minutes later the Beavers were ahead 2-0 courtesy of an Anderson penalty kick conversion at 33:24.
Any thoughts of a Clark comeback came to an end when the Beavers scored two goals less than a minute apart in the opening minutes of the second half. Anderson and Mike Fisher (Longmeadow, Mass.) set up Brenden Matthews (Marlboro, Mass.) with the first marker of his career at 48:01. Then Matthews and Fisher returned the favor, assisting on Justin Laurenzo's (Park Ridge, N.J.) header moments later.
Anderson capped the scoring when he tapped in Fisher's attempt in the 61st minute.
The Cougars had a pair off excellent opportunities to get on the board later in the half as Brian Arsenault (South Portland, Maine) sent a blast from inside the box that rang off the post and then Will Van Noppen (Providence, R.I.) had his follow up shot sail over the crossbar.
Clark had another attempt when Aaron Segura (Wooster, Ohio) sent a ball bending into the box that reserve netminder Stephen Donato (Morganville, N.J.) was able to corral in the 84th minute.
Jackson Klein (Maplewood, N.J.) played the first 82 minutes for the Beavers to record his fifth shutout of the season, making three saves, while Donato turned back one shot to close out the win. Clark keeper Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) turned back five shots in 90 minutes for the Cougars.
In addition to Anderson's performance, Babson got a three assists on the afternoon from Fisher.
Clark will look to return to the win column on Wednesday when they visit Lasell College, while Babson will host non-conference foe Keene State at 4:00pm, also on Wednesday.
