Patinkin's Four Goals Fuel Men's Lacrosse Victory at Clark

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – Babson College junior Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) scored a game-high four goals as the visiting Beavers won for the fourth time in their last five games, posting a convincing 11-2 win over host Clark University on Wednesday evening.

Babson improves to 10-5 on the season, including a 4-1 mark in Pilgrim League action, while the Cougars dip below .500 at 6-7 and a 2-3 ledger in conference play.

Coupled with Wheaton's 10-5 win over MIT, Clark now faces a win-and-get-in game at MIT on Saturday. The Beavers, meanwhile still have a shot at the league's top spot, as they can earn them a share of the regular season conference title with a win over Springfield this Saturday evening.

In addition to Patinkin, Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) handed out three assists and Tom Mallon (Manhassett, N.Y.) found the back of the net twice.

Babson opened up the scoring midway through the first period when Caruso set up Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, Vt.) for his 21st goal of the year.

The Beavers added another before the first period ended when Patinkin registered an unassisted marker less than two minutes later.

Babson then pushed their lead to 5-0 in the second quarter after a goal from Patinkin and a pair from Mallon all within a four-minute span.

Clark answered back with a score from Thomas Lynch (Auburn, Maine) off a feed from Phil Winslow (Providence, R.I.) late the second period, but the Beavers got that goal back less than 30 seconds later when Caruso found Alex Packer (Hudson, Ohio) free for a 6-1 halftime edge.

Babson scored the only two goals of the third quarter as Patinkin and Caruso recorded tallies, upping their lead to 8-1.

Pantinkin, Brad Bero (Carlisle, Mass.) and Scott Schachter (Rumford, R.I.) all scored goals in the fourth before Jeffrey Wasson (Buckhorn, Ontario) wrapped up the scoring with his 38th of the year for Clark.

The Beavers nearly doubled Clark in shots (40-21) and their smothering defense forced 21 Cougar turnovers.

James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) made seven saves for Babson before be relieved with less than ten minutes to go by Adam Daroff (Pepper Pike, Ohio).

Clark got an outstanding performance in goal from senior Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury, Conn.), who turned back 11 shots in defeat.
