BENNINGTON, N.H. -- The Babson College men's alpine ski team
clinched its fifth consecutive bid to the ESCS Regional
Championships this weekend, as the Beavers took fourth in the
slalom and third in the GS at the Saint Anselm Carnival at Crotched
Mountain. As a result, Babson finished fourth in the final
MacConnell Division standings, and in the process earned a trip to
regionals at Sugarloaf on February 25-26.
Also this weekend, the Babson women wrapped up their 2011-12
season by finishing eighth in both races, placing them eighth
overall in the final league standings.
In Saturday's slalom race, junior Zach
Breakstone and first-year Kevin Dachos
both finished in the top 20, with Breakstone taking 10th overall
and Breakstone placing 16th. Sophomore Clark
Chamberlin added a 29th-place performance for the Babson
men, while junior Richard Beneduci took 35th. The
Beavers then locked up their ninth regional bid in 10 years with an
even better performance in Sunday's giant slalom, with Breakstone
and Dashos leading the charge by finishing 10th and 11th,
respectively. Senior captain Greg LaFrance came in
25th for the Beavers, Beneduci took 31st, and Chamberlin finished
32nd as Babson matched their best team finish of the winter with a
third-place showing.
On the women's side, junior captain Franny
Robertson turned in the best performance of the weekend
for either team in Saturday's event, as she finished sixth overall.
Sophomore Jaclyn LaCavalla followed in 41st place,
and sophomore Sophie Komornicki came in 50th.
Robertson then led the team again in the GS on Sunday, as she
placed 14th, following by LaCavalla in 43rd and Komornicki in
50th.
