Men's Skiing Eyes Fifth Straight National Bid After Third-Place Finish in GS at Regionals

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine -- The Babson College men's alpine ski team moved one step closer to securing its fifth straight bid to nationals on Saturday, as the Beavers finished third in the weather-shortened giant slalom on day one of the Eastern Regional Championships at Sugarloaf.

All five of Babson's competitors placed in the top 25 in the GS, which was limited to just one run due to weather. First-year Kevin Dachos completed the course in 54.36 seconds to place sixth overall, while junior Zach Breakstone, senior captain Greg LaFrance, and sophomore Clark Chamberlin finished 12th, 13th, and 14th with respective times of 56.12, 56.17, and 56.43. Rounding out the Beavers' lineup was junior Richard Beneduci, who came in 24th overall in 57.86 seconds.

The Regionals wrap up with the slalom competition on Sunday. Babson needs a fifth-place finish in the final overall standings to earn a trip to the USCSA National Championships, which will take place at Sunday River from March 6-10.
