KILLINGTON, Vt. -- The Babson College alpine ski teams opened
their 2012 season with back-to-back slalom events at Pico Mountain
this weekend. The men's team rebounded from a sixth-place finish on
Friday to take fourth on Saturday, while the Beaver women placed
seventh on Friday and ninth on Saturday.
Originally scheduled as a giant slalom race, Friday's event was
shorted to a slalom competition due to weather and trail
conditions. The day was highlighted by junior Franny
Robertson, who recorded a career-best finish with an
eighth-place showing for the women's team. She was followed by
classmate Hilary Reis in 22nd place, sophomore
Jaclyn LaCavalla in 39th, and sophomore
Sophie Komornicki in 50th.
Leading the men's team on Friday was the junior duo of
Greg LaFrance and Zach
Breakstone, who each recorded career-high finishes by
placing 15th and 16th, respectively. Sophomore Clark
Chamberlain followed in 31st place, junior Richard
Beneduci came in 38th, junior Ryan Drake
took 42nd, and first-year Nate Hoffman placed 43rd
in his collegiate debut.
On Saturday, first-year Kevin Dachos posted
Babson's highest finish of the weekend when he placed sixth overall
for the men. LaFrance and Breakstone also cracked the top 20 by
taking 12th and 18th place, respectively, while Beneduci and
Chaberlain rounded out the lineup in 27th and 28th.
