LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The Babson College men's alpine ski team took a huge step toward securing its fifth consecutive bid to the regional championships this weekend, as the Beavers finished third on Saturday and fourth on Sunday at the two-day Clarkson Carnival at Whiteface. The Babson women also competed in the two giant slalom races, finishing eighth overall on Saturday and seventh on Sunday.
Junior Zach Breakstone recorded the top finish of the weekend for either team on Saturday, as he placed 11th overaall. He was joined in the top 20 by freshman Kevin Dachos, who finished 16th, and junior Richard Beneduci, who came in 19th. Sophomore Clark Chamberlin just missed the top 20 for the Beavers, finishing 21st, while junior Ryan Drake rounded out the team's scoring five in 35th place.
On Sunday, Beneduci led the men's squad with as 12th-place performance, with Chamberlin following in 19th place. Senior captain Greg LaFrance bounced back from a second-run fall the previous day to finish 26th on Sunday, while Breakstone and Drake came in 32nd and 35th, respectively.
For the women, junior Hilary Reis led the team with a 21st-place finish on Saturday, followed by junior captain Franny Robertson in 28th, sophomore Jaclyn LaCavalla in 34th, and sophomore Sophie Komornicki in 51st. All four members of the team then improved on their day-one finishes in Sunday's race, with Reis moving up to 15th, Robertson taking 23rd, LaCavalla finishing 29th, and Komornicki placing 44th.
Both teams will wrap up their regular season schedule next weekend, as they head to Crotched Mountain for the Saint Anselm Carnival on Saturday and Sunday.
