RESULTS
SUN VALLEY, Idaho -- The Babson College men's alpine ski team
competed in the giant slalom portion of the 2011 United States
Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) National Championships at
Greyhawk on Thursday. The Beavers placed 13th out of 20 teams with
a score of 459.75 in the event.
Making their fourth straight appearance at Nationals, senior
co-captains Keith Vella (Sussex, N.J.) and
Max Winthrop (Avon, Conn.) were outstanding in the
GS. Vella earned Honorable Mention All-America honors by finishing
14th overall with a combined time of 2:19.79 - the best National
Championship finish of his brilliant career. Meanwhile, Winthrop
came in 33rd with a two-run total of 2:27.97 - marking his highest
GS finish in four years at the event.
Rounding out Babson's list of scorers was sophomore Zach
Breakstone (Sparta, N.J.), who placed 72nd with a combined
time of 2:51.99 in his second race at Nationals and his first in
the giant slalom. Sophomore Ricky Beneduci (Hasbrouck
Heights, N.J.) and first-year Mark Grundy
(Cumberland, R.I.) both skied well in their opening runs
for Babson but were unable to complete their second runs.
The Beavers finish up their season with the slalom event on
Saturday at 9:30 a.m. local time.
