WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. -- The Babson College men's alpine ski
team placed fourth in the giant slalom event on Sunday and as a
result finished fourth overall at the United States Collegiate Ski
Association (USCSA) East Regional Championships at Waterville
Valley. By finishing in the top five, the Beavers clinched their
fourth straight bid to the USCSA National Championships at
Sunvalley in Idaho on March 7-12.
Leading the Beavers for the second straight day was first-year
Mark Grundy, who finished second overall in the GS
to earn All-Region honors for the first time in his career. He was
followed by the tandem of senior co-captains Max
Winthrop and Keith Vella, who placed 18th
and 20th overall as they became the first class in the history of
Babson skiing to earn National Championship bids in all four years
of their career.
Sophomore Zach Breakstone rounded out the list
of Babson finishers on Sunday, taking 23rd overall.
For the Beavers, the national bid is the sixth in the last seven
seasons and the eighth in this history of the program. Babson's
best finish came in 2006 and 2009, when the team placed sixth in
the nation.
