WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. -- The Babson College men's alpine ski
team moved one step closer to a bid to the USCSA National
Championships on Saturday, as the Beavers placed fourth in the
slalom portion of the 2010 Eastern Regional Championships at
Waterville Valley. If Babson can remain in the top five overall
after Sunday's giant slalom event, the Beavers would earn their
fourth straight national bid and the program's sixth in the last
seven years.
Making his first appearance at the regional championships,
first-year Mark Grundy was sensational for Babson,
turning in runs of 46.64 and 46.38 seconds to finish third overall
with a combined time of 1:33.02. Senior captain Keith
Vella followed in 17th place with a two-run total of
1:37.10, while fellow senior captain Max Winthrop
came in 21st in 1:38.30. Junior Greg LaFrance
rounded out the Beavers' four finishers in 47th place with a
combined time of 2:20.97.
The regionals will conclude with the GS on Sunday morning at
10:45 a.m.
