SLALOM RESULTS
WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. -- The Babson College men's alpine ski
team began their quest for its third straight bid to nationals at
the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference (ECSC) Regional Championships
at Waterville Valley on Saturday. The Beavers placed fifth out of
12 teams in the slalom, putting them in excellent position to earn
earn a return-trip to nationals with a top-six overall finish
following Sunday's giant slalom event.
As was the case during the regular season, the Babson men were
anchored by the brilliant skiing of juniors Max Winthrop
(Avon, Conn.) and Keith Vella (Sussex,
N.J.), who both finished in the top 15. Winthrop placed
11th overall with a two-run total time of 1:30.38, while Vella
followed in 13th place with a combined time of 1:30.90.
The Beavers also received strong performances from first-year
Zach Breakstone (Sparta, N.J.), who rounded out
the team's scoring three with a 27th-place effort in his regional
debut, senior co-captain Connor Lemenze (Stratton Mountain,
Vt.), who finishes right behind his teammate in 28th
place, and senior co-captain Chris Jacobs (Rochester,
N.Y.), who was close behind in 30th overall.
If Babson can finish in the top six in the final overall
standings after Sunday's GS competition, the Beavers would earn the
seventh USCSA National Championship bid in program history. It
would be Babson's third straight national appearance and fifth in
the last six seasons. The GS will begin at 10:15 a.m.
