BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's
soccer team scored two goals in a four-minute span of the first
half en route to a 2-1 victory over host Babson College in a
non-conference matchup of regionally-ranked squads on Monday
afternoon. With their fifth straight win, the Polar Bears, ranked
sixth in New England, improved to 6-1-2 on the season. Meanwhile,
the Beavers, ranked fourth in the region, see their five-game
unbeaten streak come to an end as they fall to 8-3-2.
Babson netted the game's first goal in the 28th minute, as
sophomore Josh Danesh (Brookline, Mass.) hit a
perfect breakaway feed from midfield to classmate Eric
Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) on the left side. Anderson then
tucked a shot past charging senior goalie Dan Hicks (New York,
N.Y.) and into the center of the net for his team-leading fifth
goal of the season at 27:28.
Bowdoin tied the game at 35:21, when junior Call Nichols (Mill
Valley, Calif.) blasted a penalty kick into the lower right corner
for his first goal of the season, evening the score at 1-1.
The Polar Bears took their first lead of the day less than four
minutes later, beginning with a long throw-in from the right
sideline by senior Daniel Chaffetz (New York, N.Y.). Senior Ben
Denton-Schneider (San Rafael, Calif.) then chipped a quick pass to
junior Sean Bishop (Danvers, Mass.), who headed a shot just inside
the right post for his second of the year at 38:54.
After getting outshot, 11-5, in the first half, Babson turned on
the offensive pressure in the second session, firing 10 shots to
Bowdoin's four. However, Hicks remained steadfast in net for
the visitors, making four of his six saves in the final 45 minutes
to help the Polar Bears come away with the 2-1 victory.
Junior Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) played
all 90 minutes in net for Babson, finishing with three saves.
