MILTON, Mass. -- The Babson College men's ice hockey team
rallied with two third-period goals to force overtime against
nationally-ranked Curry College on Tuesday night, but the Beavers
eventually fell to the #15 Colonels in the extra session, 3-2. With
the win, Curry improved to 13-3-1 on the year, while Babson dropped
to 6-9-1 overall.
Curry led 2-0 after one, as Jeffrey Hazelwood scored just under
six minutes in and Payden Benning later added a powerplay goal at
8:21. However, senior goalie Skylar Nipps would
hold the hosts scoreless over the next 51 minutes on his way to a
stellar 36-save performance.
Babson began its comeback midway through the third, as junior
Liam Chatterton scored off assists from junior
Chris Wood and sophomore Terry
Woods at 8:11 to cut the Beavers' deficit to 2-1. It then
remained a one-goal affair until the 17-minute mark, when junior
defenseman Gabriel Chenard-Poirier scored his
second goal in the last three games to knot the score at 2-2 with
2:55 remaining in regulation. Senior Matt
Harrington and first-year Cody Carlson
picked up assists on the play, which eventually sent the game into
overtime.
Curry would finally put the game away in the opening minute of
the extra session, as Ross Enmark tallied his eighth goal of the
season at 0:52.
Nipps' 36 saves included 11 in the first period, 10 in the
second, 14 in the third, and one in overtime.
