BOX SCORE

BABSON PARK, Mass. - A battle of nationally-ranked unbeatens ended with Babson College's first loss of the season in a non-conference contest against visiting Tufts University Tuesday evening at MacDowell Field on the Babson campus. Sophomore forward Tamara Brown (Annandale, Va.) and junior forward Amanda Russo (Garden City, N.J.) each scored a goal for 12th-ranked Tufts in their most competitive match up so far this season. Erika Hansen (Marston Mills, Mass.) put 16th-ranked Babson on the board late in the second half, but the Beavers were unable to score again. Holding a 14-2 shot advantage, the Jumbos walked away with the 2-1 win.

Brown's goal came in the 22nd minute when she dribbled down the end line and slipped the ball in around Babson goalie Jess Pashos (Winchester, Mass.). The jumbos entered halftime with the 1-0 lead and did not allow Babson to get off a single shot in the period. Tufts' second goal came in the 40th minute when Russo was able to put the ball in the cage after a scramble in front of the net.

With just ten minutes remaining in the game, a yellow card forced Babson to play a man down, but the Beavers still managed to capitalize when the ball entered their offensive zone. Hansen deflected the ball into the cage off a shot from sophomore Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) to make the score 2-1. However, the Beavers were unable to tie it up in the final six minutes as the Jumbos held on for the 2-1 victory.

Pashos had five saves for the Beavers, while Tufts goalie Marianna Zak (Concord, Mass.) went the distance without making a stop.

The Beavers will be at home again Thursday evening in a non-conference match against Eastern Connecticut State University at 6pm, while the Jumbos will host Connecticut College on Saturday at 1pm.
