NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior co-captain John Geverd scored the game-winning goal with 1:48 left in overtime to lift the 14th-ranked Babson ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory over host Connecticut College in an ECAC East/NESCAC matchup on Friday night.

With the win, the Beavers improved to 16-5-3 overall and 12-4-2 in league play, and in the process locked up the second seed in the upcoming ECAC East Tournament. The Beavers will now wrap up their regular season play at Tufts tomorrow and then host seventh-seeded UMass-Boston in the ECAC East Quarterfinals next Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m.

Babson dominated the shot count against Connecticut College, putting up 44 shots on net to the hosts' 15. However, the strong goaltending of Greg Parker kept the Camels in the game, as he stopped 41 shots, including 18 in the third period. Junior Skylar Nipps (Orlando, Fla.) finished with 14 saves in net for Babson.

After a scoreless opening session, Babson broke through early in the second, as sophomore Jason Schneider potted an unassisted goal - his team-leading 12th of the season - at 1:01. Connecticut College later tied the game on a powerplay score by Brian Warner at 11:27, but the Beavers retook the lead just 31 seconds later on sophomore Gabriel Chenard-Poirier's third goal of the year at 11:58.

Babson outshot Connecticut College, 18-4, in the final period, but Parker kept the Camels close with his brilliant play in net. Meanwhile, Joe Capuano tied the contest with his fourth goal of the year at 7:54, sending the game into overtime. Babson then finally secured the victory in the extra session, as junior co-captain Brad Baldelli set up Geverd on the game-winner at 3:12.
