MILTON, Mass. - The Babson College baseball team suffered a tough defeat at Curry College on Tuesday, as the Beavers fell, 5-4, in 11 innings. First-year Peter O'Toole went 3-for-5 in the loss, while junior Matt Delaney went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Senior Brett Best started and went five strong innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits, and sophomore Chris Legrow tossed 4 2/3 innings of relief, giving up three runs, one earned, on two hits. First-year Dave Ahern shouldered the loss, surrendering one run in one inning while striking out three.
Babson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, as senior tri-captain Billy Schmitt drove in first-year Brian Scanlon with a single and sophomore Andrew Spevacek knocked in Delaney with a double. After Curry got a run back in the fifth, Scanlon drove in sophomore Bryan Evans with a sacrifice fly to left in the sixth to put the Beavers in front, 3-1.
Curry plated another run in the bottom of the sixth to cut it to 3-2, Babson scored its final run of the game in the top of the seventh, as junior Steve Tahmoush singled, moved to second on an error, and scored on a double by Delaney. Curry then tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and later won it on a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 11th.
