Babson jumped out in front in the top of the first inning when junior Matt Delaney (2B, Newton, MA) singled and later scored on a Bridgewater error. They added another run the following inning after senior Andrew Collins (C, South Boston, MA) walked, stole second and advanced to third base on another error. Collins would cross the plate on a Steve Tahmoush (Jr, RF, Arlington, MA) single.
Babson increased their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Tahmoush, Delaney, and senior Ryan Campbell (1B, Manchester, NH). Delaney would score the Beaver's fourth run of the inning as he came all the way around from first base on Campbell's hit and yet another Bridgewater State error.
Trailing 6-0, Bridgewater rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Kelly LaDow (C, East Falmouth, MA) led off the inning by reaching on an error and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Back to back walks to sophomore David Kiloski (1B, Lowell, MA) and freshman Jonathan Clough (DH, Taunton, MA) loaded the bases and all three runners would advance one out later on a wild pitch. Freshman Brian Medairos (SS, Brockton, MA) singled to make it 6-2, and sophomore Brad Koneski (RF, N. Dighton, MA) cleared the bases with a 3-run blast over the left field fence.
Babson got a run back in the fifth on doubles by freshman Peter O'Toole (CF, Salem, MA) and senior Billy Schmitt (SS, Fairview, NJ). Bridgewater however tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the inning as they loaded the bases with two walks and an error. Freshman Nikolas Karangioze (2B, Lowell, MA) was hit by a pitch knocking in the Bear's sixth run, and BSC tied the game on a fielder's choice groundout.
Bridgewater's defense let them down again in the top of the sixth as Babson scored twice to take the lead for good. The Beavers had runners at second and third thanks to a hit batsman, a base hit, and a passed ball. That brought up sophomore Bryan Evans (LF, Bellaire, TX) who lofted a high pop up in the infield that was dropped for BSC's fifth error of the game. Sophomore Jeff Wojnar (DH, Bellaire, TX) who was on third base easily trotted home with the go-ahead run. One out later, O'Toole hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Campbell from third.
Babson added an insurance run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Campbell. The Bears threatened in the ninth plating a run on an RBI groundout, but that would be as close as they would get.
Junior Robbie Leer (Edina, MN) picked up the win in relief for Babson as he went an inning and two-thirds allowing two unearned runs. Leer (3-1) faced nine batters, walking two, striking out two, and hitting one. Freshman Dave Ahern (Bedford, MA) picked up his fifth save of the season as he pitched the ninth inning for the Beavers. Ahern allowed one run on two hits and struck out two.
Sophomore Dean Archibald (Marlboro, MA) took the loss for the Bears in relief as he gave up 4 runs on 5 hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. Archibald (0-1) walked two, struck out three, and hit two batters. Only two of his four runs were earned.
Neither starting pitcher was around for the decision. Babson sophomore Mark Donnellan (Walpole, MA) gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits while walking three and striking out two in 3 1/3 innings of work. BSC sophomore left-hander Connor Bishop (Arlington, MA) was touched for six runs (three earned) on eight hits also in 3 1/3 innings of work. Bishop walked one, struck out three, and hit a batter.
Campbell led Babson's 13-hit attack as he went 4-for-5 with a run and two RBI. Tahmoush, Delaney, Wojnar, and Schmitt each had two hits apiece for Babson.
Kiloski and freshman Mark Claffey (3B, Bellingham, MA) both finished 3-for-4 to highlight the Bears' ten-hit attack.
