Box Score
BABSON PARK, Mass. -
The Babson College baseball team scored eight runs in a three-inning stretch to rally from an early deficit en route to a 10-6 victory over the visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon. It was the sixth straight win and 10th in the last 12 games for the Beavers, who improved to 18-9 on the season. Wentworth fell to 8-14 overall with the loss.
Wentworth sophomore Nick Cunningham (Pembroke, Mass.) recorded RBI singles in each of the first two innings as Wentworth built a 5-2 lead after two and a half. However, Babson answered with two in the bottom of third, three in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to take a 10-5 lead. Sophomore Andrew Spevacek (Shorewood, Minn.) recorded an RBI single in the third, first-year Peter O'Toole (Salem, Mass.) added a two-run single in the fourth, and junior Steve Tahmoush (Arlington, Mass.) blasted a three-run homer - his second of the season - to highlight the fifth. The Leopards got one back in the ninth, but it was not enough to prevent the 10-6 Babson win.
Sophomore Pete Bizinkauskas (Duxbury, Mass.) picked up his third win of the year in relief for Babson, as he tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings after coming on for first-year starter Michael O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in the third. Senior Bret Best finished up with an inning of relief in the ninth. No Babson player recorded more than one hit in the win, although Tahmoush, O'Toole, and sophomore Bryan Evans (Bellaire, Texas) each drove in multiple runs. Four different Beavers scored two runs in the victory, with Tahmoush, junior Matt Delaney (Newton, Mass.), and senior tri-captains Ryan Campbell (Manchester, N.H.) and Billy Schmitt (Fairview, N.J.) each crossing the plate twice.
Five different pitchers saw action for Wentworth, with junior Adriane Bastide (Beverly, Mass.) taking the loss in relief. First-year Anthony Carbone (Goshen, Conn.) went 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Leopards, while Cunningham and sophomore Mike Roberts (Chelmsford, Mass.) each recorded two hits and two RBIs. First-year Pete Oggeri (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and junior Jarrett Ament (Boylston, Mass.) also added two hits apiece, and first-year Chris Carbone (Goshen, Conn.) scored twice in defeat.
