Baseball Wraps Up Southern Trip With Wild Finish

March 21, 2007

Box Score

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Babson baseball team wrapped up a very successful spring break trip to Florida in wild fashion on Wednesday, as the Beavers blew a 10-run lead in the bottom of the ninth only to bounce back with a run in the 10th to claim a 17-16 victory over Amherst. The win improved the Beaver Nine's mark to 5-1 on the season.

Babson's southern finale was certainly its wildest game to date, as the Beavers plated seven runs in the top of the first. Amherst got single runs back in the first and third innings, but Babson erupted for four more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to build a 12-2 lead.

The Lord Jeffs cut their deficit to six with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Babson scored twice in the seventh and twice in the ninth to take a seemingly comfortable 16-6 advantage. However, Amherst scored 10 runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the contest at 16-16. The Beavers then plated the game-winning run in the top of the tenth and held the Jeffs scoreless to clinch the remarkable 17-16 win.

More details will be posted when they become available.
