First-year Ryan Howarth (Grand Blanc, Mich.) scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway 56 seconds into overtime to lift the visiting Connecticut College Camels to a 5-4 win over host Babson College in an ECAC East/NESCAC men's ice hockey contest on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Camels finished the regular season at 10-12-2 overall and 9-9-1 in the NESCAC, while the Beavers dropped to 15-9-1 overall and 11-7-1 in the ECAC East. Babson will now enter the upcoming conference tournament as the sixth seed, and will travel to Skidmore for a quarterfinal matchup with the third-seeded Thoroughbreds next Saturday at 5 p.m.
In addition to the game-winner at 0:56 of the overtime period, Howarth also tallied the game-tying goal at 14:10 of the third. Senior tri-captain Jake Henry (Winchester, Mass.) also netted a pair of goals for Connecticut College, while first-year Brett Moore (Medfield, Mass.) recorded a game-high three assists. Rookie goaltender Greg Parker (Trenton, Ontario) went the distance in net for the Camels, making 26 saves.
Sophomore Brad Baldelli (Northboro, Mass.) scored the go-ahead goal for Babson at 12:34 of the third while also recording two assists. First-year Shane Farrell (West Warwick, R.I.) also posted one goal and two assists for the Beavers, who saw their six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) come to a halt.
