Nov. 16, 2007

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Junior co-captain Brad Baldelli (Northboro, Mass.) scored a pair of second-period goals to lead the Babson College men's ice hockey team to a 3-1 victory against visiting Bowdoin College in a conference tilt between nationally-ranked squads on Friday night. With the win, the Beavers, ranked 11th in the country in the most recent U.S. College Hockey Online poll, begin the year 1-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the ECAC East, while the Polar Bears, ranked 14th in the nation, open the season at 0-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in NESCAC play.

Babson opened the scoring midway through the first period, as first-year Terry Woods (Duxbury, Mass.) netted his first collegiate goal off assists from senior Mike Venit (Ridley Park, Pa.) and sophomore Chris Wood (Medford, Mass.). Baldelli then tacked on two more scores in the first eight minutes of the second session, beginning with a goal off a feed from junior JT Balben (Wayland, Mass.) at 3:45. Baldelli added his second of the night on a short-handed bid at 7:19, with Geverd and sophomore Gabriel Chenard-Poirier (St. Augustin, Quebec) notching assists, as the Beavers built a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Bowdoin got one goal back when senior Mike Westerman (Ann Arbor, Mich.) converted feeds from sophomore Colin MacCormack (Bedford, Nova Scotia) and junior Mike Collins (Wheaton, Ill.) at 12:37 of the second, but that would be all junior goalie Skylar Nipps (Orlando, Fla.) would allow as Babson skated away with the 3-1 victory. Nipps finished with 22 saves in net for the Beavers, while sophomore Chris Rossi (Barrington, R.I.) turned away 21 shots in net for the Polar Bears.
