Skidmore Blanks Men's Ice Hockey, 5-0

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Skidmore College hockey team got the job done early with three first-period goals on the way to a 5-0 ECAC East win over Babson College on Friday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.

Thoroughbred freshman goalie D.J. Delbuono (Westborough, Mass.) had 27 saves, including 11 in the third period for his school-record third shutout of the season. Skidmore's defense allowed only 16 shots in the first two periods, despite killing off seven penalties.

Anthony Ferri (Jersey City, N.J.) scored the first Thoroughbred goal from defenseman Phil McDavitt (Duxbury, Mass.) at 8:59 of the first. Matt Czerkowicz made it 2-0 at 16:23 with his team-high 14th goal of the season from Steve Keady (Canton, Mass.) and Teddy Gowan (Hamilton, N.Y.). Mike Gibbons (Braintree, Mass.) closed out the first period with a power-play goal from McDavitt and Rob Hutchison (Waterville, N.Y.) at 19:00.

In the second, Taylor McKenna (Lake Placid, N.Y.) made it 4-0 from Joey Peller (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and defenseman Quinn MacNulty (Lynnfield, Mass.) at 13:58. MacNulty set-up Gowan for the final goal at 18:59. There was no scoring in the third period.

Skylar Nipps (Orlando, Fla.) played the first two periods in net for the Beavers, making 20 saves, while Ryan Moses (Bedford, N.Y.) stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third.
