PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -
Four different players scored goals to lift the Babson College men's ice hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Connecticut College in the consolation game of the Cardinal Classic at Plattsburgh State University on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Brad Baldelli was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Beavers, who improved to 5-4-0 with the non-conference win.
After a scoreless first period, Baldelli netted his second goal of the tourney and seventh of the season on the powerplay to give Babson a 1-0 lead at 2:34 of the second. Junior Nate Smith then netted an unassisted score just over one minute later to push the Beavers' advantage to 2-0.
Connecticut College cut its deficit in half with a goal at 8:57 of the second, but that would be the final score allowed by sophomore goalie Skylar Nipps. Meanwhile, the Babson offense tacked on two more powerplay goals in the third period, as junior captain John Geverd and first-year Jason Schneider each netted scores to finish off the 4-1 victory.
Nipps finished with 18 saves in net as he earned his third win of the season, while Conn College goalie Matt Gluck stopped a total of 37 shots. The Beavers outshot the Camels, 41-19, in the contest, while the Babson special teams unit held Conn College scoreless on nine powerplay opportunities.
