WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Junior Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) and first-year Jay Sherwood (Duxbury, Mass.) both closed with a round of 73 and tied for eighth place to help the 20th-ranked Babson College men's golf team finish third in the Williams Invitational at Taconic Golf Club on Sunday. 

Despite recording their highest score of the season (306) in rainy and wet conditions, the Beavers finished the 54-hole tournament at 38-over 890, which was one shot ahead of Amherst and two strokes behind second-place Trinity. Pomona-Pitzer, which was the only team to break 300 on Sunday, finished 11 shots clear of the field at 25-over par. 

Sherwood, who shot 71-76 in his collegiate debut on Saturday, birdied his final hole to finish the day at 2-over while moving into a tie for eighth at 7-over 220. Vantipalli, who tied for first among the field in par-4 scoring, made one birdie and three bogeys in Sunday's final round and joined Sherwood in eighth place at 7-over. 

Senior Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) and junior Chad Tordone (Barnstable, Mass.) had one birdie apiece and both shot 80 in the final round. Berry tied for 20th position at 13-over for the tournament, while Tordone earned a share of 59th place at 23-over. 

Sophomore Luke Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) struggled to an 83 on Sunday after carding consecutive rounds of 72 on Saturday. He finished in 24th place at 14-over for the weekend. 

Babson returns to action on October 5-6 when it travels to Douglasville, Ga., for the West Pines Collegiate. 

TOURNAMENT NOTES
•    The Beavers have recorded a top-five showing in nine of their last 10 appearances at the Williams Invitational, which includes finishing among the top three in five of the last six seasons going back to 2021.
•    Sunday's score of 306 marked just the third time in the last 14 rounds at Taconic GC that Babson posted a score above 299. 
•    The Green and White ranked first in the 17-team field in par-4 scoring and its eight double-bogeys over 54 holes were the fewest in the field. 
•    The average score of the 89-player field on Sunday was 80.12.
