BABSON PARK, Mass.— Senior
Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) and sophomore
Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) of the Babson College men's tennis program were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team on Tuesday afternoon.
Merson was recognized by CSC for the second straight season while Wang was honored for the first time in his career.
A Business Operations and Supply Chain major, Merson is enjoying an outstanding season for the 12th-ranked Beavers. He leads the team in singles victories with an impressive 19-2 record, including 13-1 in dual matches and 11-1 at number one singles, and going 4-0 against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponents. His 19 victories are tied for second in program history in single-season singles wins.
He also posted a 17-7 record this spring in doubles, including 12-5 in dual matches, going 8-4 at number one and 4-1 at number two. His 36 singles and doubles victories this year rank sixth all-time in program history in single-season combined wins.
A two-time All-NEWMAC selection in both singles and doubles, Merson was named this year's NEWMAC men's tennis Athlete of the Year. He is one of 32 men's players in Division III who will compete in the NCAA Singles Championship in Chattanooga, Tenn., beginning on May 22.
A Finance major, Wang had another outstanding campaign for the Beavers. He finished second on the team in singles victories with a 17-7 record, going 14-5 in dual matches including 5-0 at number one singles, 9-5 at number two, and 3-0 versus conference opponents.
Wang has also posted an impressive 28-8 mark in doubles and to finish second on the team in doubles wins, going 14-7 in dual matches, including 11-4 at number two doubles and 4-0 against conference foes. His 28 doubles wins are second-most in a season in program history and his 27-7 mark with classmate
Sebastian Mendoza is the most in program history by a doubles team.
The 2025 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-NEWMAC selection in doubles, Wang owns career records of 41-11 in singles and 45-18 in doubles. His 86 career victories rank fifth in program history in combined singles and doubles wins.
No. 12 Beavers captured their second straight NEWMAC championship and third in program history, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament third round for the second year in a row, wrapping up the campaign with a 19-5 overall record.
Since 1952, CSC has honored more than 40,000 outstanding student-athletes across the NCAA. To be eligible, a tennis student-athlete maintain a GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale and must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition.
