MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— Following a strong performance for the Babson College baseball team, junior
Jason Finkelstein (Walpole, Mass.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Finkelstein made two appearances going 1-0 with one save, a 1.13 ERA and five strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a .077 average in 8.0 innings last week. He needed just nine pitches to retire the side in order for his first career save in Wednesday's 2-1 win over No. 22 Tufts and then gave up just one run on two hits while striking out five in Saturday's 11-1 eight-inning victory over Emerson.
A veteran right-hander, Finkelstein has posted a 2-2 record with a 4.88 earned run average in eight appearances and five starts this spring, allowing 23 hits and 18 walks in 31.1 innings while striking out 22 batters. He leads all NEWMAC pitchers in batting average against (.202) and ranks 11th in innings pitched, 12th in ERA and 10th in wins.
The Beavers (16-12, 6-4 NEWMAC), which have won five of their last six outings, will be back on the diamond on Tuesday at Springfield at 3:30 p.m.
