Baseball Falters Late in 13-7 Loss to Lasell

BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year Tyler Holt (Crofton, Md.) drove in four runs over the final two innings and visiting Lasell University scored six times in the top of the ninth to defeat Babson College, 13-7, in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Govoni Field.

Babson has dropped its last three games to slip to 16-14 on the year, while Lasell has won four out of five to improve to 16-17.

Senior Zander Teator (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored as eight different players accounted for the Beavers' nine hits. Classmate James Clark (Southborough, Mass.) struck out four and allowed two earned runs over 5.2 innings in a no-decision.

Senior Tim Callahan (Attleboro, Mass.) was 4-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored, classmate Connor Freitas (Portsmouth, R.I.) went 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI, and first-year Andrew Hosford (Bellingham, Mass.) singled, walked twice, drove in three runs and scored twice for the Lasers, who finished with 14 hits. First-year Calvin Sanft (Wolfeboro, N.H.) also had two hits and two RBI in the win.

Clark breezed through the first three innings before Callahan led off with a single, Freitas doubled to right center and Sanft ripped a base hit to left center to bring them both home to put Lasell up 2-0 in the top of the fourth. The Green and White answered back in its half of the inning though as Teator started the frame with a double and scored two batters later when junior Dante D'Avanzo (Ashland, Mass.) ripped a line drove over the head of Freitas in left to make it 2-1.

Sophomore Dylan Drazka (Rye Brook, N.Y.) worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the game and D'Avanzo raced home on sophomore Ben Valente's (Newton, Mass.) fly out into foul territory down the left field line to put the Beavers in front 3-2. Hofsford worked a bases-loaded walk as Lasell tied the game in the top of the sixth before Babson scored three times in the bottom of the inning, which included a two-out RBI single by junior Ian Laforest (Waltham, Mass.), to regain a 6-3 advantage.

The lead was short-lived however, as the Green and White made three errors in the top of the eighth and Holt produced a two-run single that helped the Lasers go back in front 7-6. Teator tied it with a solo shot to right in the bottom of the inning before Lasell busted the game open with a six-run ninth that included a two-run single to right by Hosford and a two-run double down the right field line by Holt.

Sophomore Lucas Stogner (Wilbraham, Mass.) improved to 2-2 on the season with the win for Lasell, while Beavers' sophomore Bobby Burk (Kensington, Md.) was tagged with the loss.

Babson is back in action on Thursday when it hosts Johnson & Wales at 3:30 p.m., while Lasell is set for a doubleheader against Emerson on Saturday at 12 p.m.
