Babson Athletics Among Top 50 Institutions in Winter Directors’ Cup Standings

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Following the conclusion of the winter season, the Babson College Department of Athletics and Recreation is among the top 50 institutions nationally in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, as the Beavers rank 47th out of more than 425 Division III colleges and universities countrywide.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup is awarded annually to the nation's best overall collegiate athletics program. Each institution is awarded points in a predetermined number of sports for men and women.

The Division III program began in 1995-96 by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA TODAY, and it has since grown into a universally recognized mark of distinction among collegiate institutions.

Babson contributed 50 points this winter to its fall point tally for 233 total. The Beavers stand 11th in the strongest region behind fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school MIT (11th) and nine New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) institutions ranked between second and 42nd.

Men's basketball emerged victorious in the NEWMAC Tournament for the third time in four seasons while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to top-ranked and defending national champion Trinity. With a record of 22-7, the Green and White qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in program history.

Aside from men's basketball and outside of the NCAA, the men's and women's alpine skiing teams posted top-three finishes at their respective United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Championships. The men took second in the combined standings for the second straight winter to match the best finish in program history, while the women tied for third and also equaled their highest placement in school annals.

The final set of spring and overall standings will be published on Tuesday, June 9.
