FARMINGDALE, N.Y.—Babson College senior
Shane Quinn (Morristown, N.J.) shot an even-par 71 to post a one-shot victory at the Bethpage Black Invitational hosted by Farmingdale State College on Thursday afternoon.
Quinn finished one shot clear of Francis Lanuza of Adelphi (N.Y.) and three shots ahead of sophomore teammate
Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.), who tied for third with a 3-over 74. Senior
Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) tied for 11th position at 6-over after carding a 77, junior
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) shot a 78 to tie for 15th place and sophomore
Chad Tordone (Barnstable, Mass.) made a pair of early birdies but settled for an 82 on the famed Black Course at Bethpage, which played to more than 7,200 yards on Thursday.
Quinn got off to a fast start with birdies on Nos. 2 and 4 and followed a bogey on the fifth hole with another birdie at the par-5 seventh to get back to 2-under for the round. He dropped shots on Nos. 9 and 11 but made his fourth birdie of the day at No. 15 and bounced back from a bogey on the 17th with a closing par to post the low round of the day.
Vantipalli birdied the opening hole and made the turn at 1-under before carding four bogeys on the back nine to finish at 3-over. Fowler made his lone birdie of the day at the par-5 seventh hole on the way to carding a 77, while Berry made birdies on Nos. 7 and 18 for a 78.
Babson will conclude the regular season on the Red Course at Bethpage when it competes in the Farmingdale State Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
