SCOUTING THE BEARS
• Smith (6-5, 0-0 NEWMAC) has split its last six games after recording a 9-1 six-inning victory to split Friday's doubleheader against Keene State.
• Riley Veenstra was 3-for-4 with two RBI, Ally Knutson went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, and Lily Hackett brought in the go-ahead run with an RBI single to spark a five-run fourth inning for the Bears, who got eight strikeouts over 6.0 innings from Violet Peverly.
• Knutson is batting .442 with nine extra-base hits, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored, Sophie Hasegawa is batting .419 with two extra-base hits, six runs batted in and 12 runs scored, and Gabbie Chinnis boasts a .407 average go along with six RBI and a team-high 15 runs scored for an offensive that is averaging better than eight runs a game.
• Gray (3-0, 3.00 ERA) has recorded 19 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a .206 average in 25.2 innings, and Peverly is 3-3 with a 3.86 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 29.0 innings pitched.

• After tying for second place advancing to the championship round of the conference tournament for the second year in a row, the Beavers were picked to finish third in the NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll back in February.
• Defending champion MIT and Springfield combined to earn 10 of 11 first-place votes to come in ahead of Babson, while WPI and Wheaton rounded out the top five.
