BOSTON—The Babson College men's ice hockey trio of senior
Charlie Andriole (Branford, Conn.), junior
Jimmy Fallon (Milton, Mass.) and senior
Nate Mueller (Rogers, Minn.) were among 36 players selected as semifinals for the Silver Anniversary and 25th Joe Concannon Award as announced by the Greater Gridiron Club of Boston on Thursday morning.
The award is presented annually to the best American-born NCAA Division II/III hockey player in New England. All three players were named to the list for the first time in their respective careers.
The Beavers, along with Conference of New England (CNE) programs Endicott College, Suffolk University and the University of New England all had three semifinalists.
"We are proud to have three of our players selected as semi-finalists for the Joe Concanon Award, one of the most prestigious recognitions you can receive as a Division III hockey player in New England," commented Babson head coach
Jamie Rice '90. Chuck, Nate and Jimmy are having tremendous seasons to date and play a large part in our team's success. Their individual recognition is a great reflection on the strength of our program as well as their individual accomplishments and character. They represent the best of our program, Babson College and DIII athletics; excellence in the classroom and community, dedication to our program, their teammates and committed to winning. Thank you to the New England Gridiron Club for recognizing them."
Andirole has scored a career-high eight goals to go along with nine assists for a career-best 17 points in 19 games this winter. He is tied for first in the Little East Conference (LEC) with a +27 rating and is tied for the team lead with three power play goals. Additionally, Andriole's eight goals are the most by a Babson defenseman since the 2008-09 campaign and his 17 points are the most by a blueliner since 2022 Joe Concannon Award semifinalist John Corrigan '22 totaled 19 in 2021-22.
Fallon has put together the best season of his career producing career highs of 14 goals, 12 assists and 26 points in 19 games. He has recorded a pair of hat tricks, is currently riding a five-game points streak and is tied for first in the LEC in goals and second in points with sophomore linemate
Evan Brown ().
Fallon also is tied for the team lead alongside Andriole with three power play goals.
Mueller has been terrific in 15 starts this winter going 12-1-2 with a career-best 1.75 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. He ranks first in the LEC and sixth in Division III in goals against average and first in the conference and 18th nationally in save percentage, and has limited opponents to one goal in six of his last nine starts going back to November 30.
The Joe Concannon Award was established by the Gridiron Club of Boston in 2001 to honor Joe, a lifelong devotee of college hockey, former member of the Walter Brown Award Selection Committee and, as a journalist, a staunch advocate for the amateur athletes he knew and covered. Joe graduated from Boston University in 1961 and served as the sports information director at the College of the Holy Cross before joining the Boston Globe in the late 1960's to cover college sports.
The Gridiron Club will announce the finalists and winner of the 21st Joe Concannon Award in March. Ryan Black '22 was selected as the co-winner in 2022 and Jamie Murray '16 is the only player to win the Joe Concannon Award in back-to-back seasons doing so in 2015 and 2016.
No. 9 Babson (15-2-2, 10-1-1 LEC), which is riding a five-game winning streak, concludes its four-game road trip in Vermont as it faces Castleton on Friday at 7 p.m. and Norwich on Saturday at 4 p.m.
