MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—The Babson College men's basketball team was picked to finish first in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) preseason coaches' poll that was released on Wednesday morning.
The reigning NEWMAC tournament champion Beavers received five first-place votes and finished atop the poll with 61 points, while defending regular season champion WPI earned one top vote and finished second with 54 points. Salve Regina, a tournament semifinalist last year, was third with 47 points and MIT captured three first-place votes and 38 points to round out the top four.
Babson returns 15 veterans, including three starters and two All-Conference selections, from last year's team that went 22-7 overall and 13-3 in NEWMAC play to register their 11th consecutive top-three finish in the league standings. Led by 32nd-year head coach
Stephen Brennan, the Green and White has appeared in the NCAA Tournament nine times in the past dozen seasons.
The Beavers open the season at home against local foe Lasell on November 7 at Staake Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
