MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—Babson College senior
Sophia Shaw (Novato, Calif.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week Tuesday afternoon for the first week of the fall season.
Shaw led the team with 38 total digs and averaged 3.45 digs per set as Babson opened the season by winning two of three matches at the Greg "Gio" Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament at Johns Hopkins. She finished with 15 digs in Friday's 3-0 victory over Capital, had 14 digs and five assists in a four-set win over Rowan on Saturday morning and capped the weekend with nine digs, four assists and two aces in a four-set loss to No. 4 Johns Hopkins.
A four-year veteran, Shaw has produced 710 digs and 94 services aces in her career and led the team with 4.36 digs per set last season.
Babson (2-1) is back in action in the home opener against Keystone on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Staaky Gymnasium.
