BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year
Devon Burke (Newtonville, Mass.) hit a blistering .615 and led all players with 10 kills as Babson College overpowered visiting Keystone College in three sets (25-7, 25-11, 25-9) in non-conference women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.
With the win, Babson improves to 3-1 on the year. Keystone drops to 0-4 overall with the loss.
First-year
Ailsa Munro (Sylmar, Calif.) both recorded six kills, while junior
Allison Molendyk (Danville, Calif.) and
Nora Whitehurst (Atlanta, Ga.) add five kills apiece for the Beavers, who hit .571 as a team in the victory. Fellow junior
Zoe Ackerman (Aurora, Colo.) handed out 24 assists and a team-high four service aces, while senior
Sophia Shaw (Novato, Calif.) led all players with six digs.
First-year Madison Woods (Camrose, Alberta) registered three kills and fellow rookies Naema Alatorre (Brownsville, Texas) and Nat Reyes (Lamont, Calif.) both finished two digs to lead the Giants.
The Green and White scored seven consecutive points on the serve of first-year
Misaki Harte (San Jose, Calif.) to begin the match and led by as many as 18 in the opening stanza thanks to 13 kills on a .550 hitting percentage. The Beavers were even better in game two, totaling 17 kills against just three errors in 22 swings while using a 13-1 run to build a commanding two-set advantage.
Three straight aces by Ackerman capped an 11-2 burst to start the third, and Burke led all players with three kills in the frame to help close out the match.
Babson returns to action next Friday when it hosts Brandeis at 4 p.m. to open the New England Fall Classic. Keystone hosts Penn State Schuylkill on Monday at 7 p.m.
MATCH NOTES
• Saturday's match was the first in program history for the Beavers against Keystone.
• Babson's 17 service aces are its most since recording 20 in a three-set sweep of Maine-Presque Isle back on August 31, 2024.
• Saturday's .571 hitting percentage marked the first time the Green and White has hit .500 or better since September 29, 2022, when it finished with a mark of .538 in a 3-0 win over Mass. Maritime.
• The Beavers are now 36-5 at home going back to the start of the 2022 campaign.
