MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—Babson College claimed one conference tournament championship and two regular season titles while recording its highest point total in department history on the way to finishing second in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Presidents Cup standings on Thursday.
The Presidents Cup is an all-sports award presented to the top overall men's and women's programs in the conference and is determined using a weighted points system based on the order of finish during both the regular season and championship play going back to 2013.
The Beavers improved their point total for the fifth year in a row to 9.09 and placed second for the third time in the last four seasons and fifth time overall since 2018. MIT captured its 10th straight Presidents Cup with 11.50 points, Springfield College (8.79) came in third, and Coast Guard Academy (8.26) and Smith College (8.04) rounded out the top five.
Field hockey captured its fourth consecutive regular season and tournament championships in the fall, while women's lacrosse went unbeaten in league play for the second year in a row before having its 32-game NEWMAC unbeaten streak snapped on the conference final. Basketball and softball both placed second in the regular season standings with the later advancing to its second straight tournament final back in May.
Tennis came in third in the regular season standings before advancing to its seventh consecutive conference tournament final, while soccer (4th) and volleyball (T-4th) both reached the semifinals. Cross country and swimming & diving came in seventh at the their respective league meets, and track & field placed eighth overall.
Field hockey, lacrosse and tennis all qualified for the NCAA Tournament and won their opening contest to advance to the second round.
