Joseph Addotta (Ridgefield, Conn.) took seventh in the discus and senior
Will Dean (Belmont, Mass.) finished 10th in the long jump to highlight a number of strong performances on the opening day of competition at the Silfen Track & Field Invitational at Connecticut College on Friday.
Addotta recorded a season-best mark of 128-09 in the discus, just 16 inches off his career best, while Dean produced a leap of 18-feet, 8.75-inches in the long jump,
Several other athletes posted top-15 performances for the Green and White. Three Beavers finished in the top 15 in the 3000 meters, sophomore
Almond Nickerson IV (Darien, Conn.) in 11th in 10:24.82, first-year
Daniel Garcia (Miami, Fla.) in 13th in 10:34.52, and classmate
Sam Zabbo (Warwick, R.I.) in 15th in 10:43.23.
Senior
Julian Ivarra (Plano, Texas) finished 12th in the 5000 meters in 15:04.83, just ahead of first-year
Nick Yacoub (Sharon, Mass.), who was 13th in 15:07.62. Graduate student
Matthew Campbell (South Easton, Mass.) was 13th in the 10,000 meters in 32:47.71, and fellow grad student
Ryan Wilson (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) was 14th in the 1500 meters in 4:07.55.
In addition to Addotta in the discus, first-year
Brett White (Barrington, R.I.) was 12th in the hammer throw with a mark of 130-feet, 6-inches.
The second day of competition at the Silfen Invitational begins on Saturday at 10 a.m.
